Demolition of the former Penygelli Junior School took place in January 2007 and the construction phase on Plas Pentwyn was completed in April 2008. The new Centre has been designed to include sustainable energy features such as a ground source heat pump, rainwater harvesting, solar panels, windcatcher and sunpipes.
Plas Pentwyn provides a wide range of "one stop shop" community focused facilities including a Resource Centre (New Library); a Computer Training Suite; Playgroup and Childcare Provision; a Committee Room; a Community Hall; a Coffee Shop/Refreshment Area and Exhibition Space.
The rented accommodation at the Centre will include 8 Business Units and Office Space. The variety of activities is designed to encourage local people to access training, increase employment opportunities and encourage business start ups.
Funding for the new facility has come from the West Wrexham URBAN II Programme, through the European Regional Development Fund, the Welsh Assembly's Local Regeneration Fund and Wrexham County Borough Council.
