Community Development Team (West Wrexham)

Wrexham County Borough Council’s Community Development Team supports residents and community groups located within West Wrexham (Brymbo & Tanyfron, Coedpoeth, Broughton, Gwersyllt and Llay) to regenerate their communities.

The team’s remit includes supporting and facilitating development and implementation of physical, social and economic regeneration through partnership working. The community development activity aims to carry on the legacy of the European funded ‘URBAN II’ Community Initiative Programme which west Wrexham benefited from between 2001 and 2006.

The team’s workload is steered by priorities identified by the West Wrexham Partnership, a committee with representation from each of the west Wrexham communities. The team’s key priorities currently include supporting the development of projects such as community transport, community learning, children and young people’s activities, heritage and health & wellbeing, in addition to supporting the on-going development of the new enterprise and lifelong learning centres. These Centres have provided opportunities to training, lifelong learning and business start-up opportunities in order to develop both individual and community capacities.
